A new active congestion control mechanism for the Internet

In the last three decades, the development of communication and networking technology has rapidly increased and the use of the internet has become one of the tasks in our daily life. The revolution of the internet from transferring the data to the multimedia applications makes it one of the most important and quickest media for delivering the information in the world. On the other side, this revolution it creates serious congestion in the networks. Researchers have proposed many algorithms like Random early Detection (RED) [1], which is one of the most popular algorithms in active queue management schemes, to deal with this issue. Many Algorithms have been based on RED such as Adaptive RED, and DSRED. This paper proposed a new active queue management algorithm which dynamically adjusts a queue threshold by controlling the slope of the line that represents the relationship between the average queue size and the dropping probability between two thresholds. Simulations show that our algorithm results in higher throughput and lower delay compared to the RED scheme.
